Llechwedd Slate Caverns
Average duration: 3 hrs
- Dog Friendly
Llechwedd Slate Caverns are situated in the historic Llechwedd Quarry, near Blaenau Ffestiniog surrounded by the beauty of the Snowdonia National Park. We’re home to the multi award-winning ‘Slate Mountain Adventure’, a three-hour journey of discovery above & below ground.
Your trip will begin with an off-road exploration of the quarry climbing to 1,500 feet above sea level and, weather willing, offering views of Snowdonia, Harlech Castle and across the Irish Sea. The second half of your adventure will take you into the deepest accessible point of the mine on Britain’s steepest cable railway.
The tour is an emotional journey, chronicling the tough working conditions of the miners and concluding with a stunning light and sound show. Winning the North Wales Tourism ‘Go Attraction of the Year 2019’, and our inclusion in the Trip Advisor Hall of Fame, are reasons enough for you to include us in your Snowdonia 360 itinerary.
We have an award-winning hotel and glamping accommodation onsite, all with stunning views. These make us a great hub from which to explore other nearby attractions such as Portmeirion and the other Zip World attractions in the Snowdonia National Park.
