Plas Weunydd is Named ‘Best in Wales’ and One of 100 Best Hotels in UK!

The annual Sunday Times ‘Best Places to Stay’ list has been unveiled for 2021 with Plas Weunydd being awarded its prestigious ‘Best Hotel in Wales’ award. As well as being the best in the country, the hotel was also included in the full list of 100 Best Places to Stay in the UK.

Based in Blaenau Ffestiniog, this boutique hotel comprises of twenty-four unique and stylish rooms with a further six luxury five-star safari tents perched on the hills behind. At the hotel, the comfortable surroundings of the bar and lounge make it the perfect place to relax and unwind.

Pamela Goodman, The Sunday Times writes:

‘An adventure-focused hotel that perfectly complements the exhilarating surrounding scenery’

“Following its heyday in the late 19th century as the capital of Welsh slate mining, the Gwynedd town of Blaenau Ffestiniog hit the buffers when demand for slate slumped. Recently, however, the wheel of fortune has begun to turn, due largely to two factors: first, the birth of north Wales as the heart of adventure tourism in the UK; second, the announcement in July this year that the dour slate landscape of northwest Wales had been granted Unesco world heritage status.

What a win! Particularly for the old Llechwedd mine on the edge of Blaenau, where a new hotel, Plas Weunydd, opened in May to complement the on-site adventure offerings of Zip World.”
